Barely two weeks after Nigeria’s finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, resigned, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan has submitted her resignation, although with a different reason from Finance Minister.
Alhassan had, in a letter sent to the President dated Saturday, 29 September, 2018, informed of her decision to quit Buhari’s government.
She thanked President Buhari for the opportunity to serve.
She then left the APC with all local government party leaders as well as some state lawmakers and joined the United Democratic Party,UDP.
Her resignation and acceptance of the resignation letter was confirmed in a post by President Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmaad, on his Twitter page.
He wrote: “President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the resignation of Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan (Mrs) as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development from the government with immediate effect.”
Meanwhile, President Buhari has appointed Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment as Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development with immediate effect.
He directed that the affairs of the Ministry should be piloted by Abubakar because of her credibility and service so far.
