Two people got HIV after having vampire facials at a Beauty salon which used dirty needles to perform the procedure, officials said.

The New Mexico Department of Health who announced this on Monday said they are afraid that many other customers may have contracted the virus through syringes and needles used to perform anti-ageing procedures on them.

The two infected people reportedly visited VIP Spa in Albuquerque between May and September 2018. The Spa was closed in September 2018 over concerns about the way they handle needles, and whether they are licensed to operate.

The New Mexico Department of Health spokesperson, Kathy Kunkel, said:

“While over 100 VIP Spa clients have already been tested, NMDOH is reaching out to ensure that testing and counseling services are available for individuals who received injection related services at the VIP Spa.

“Testing is important for everyone as there are effective treatments for HIV and many hepatitis infections.”
