Eric R. Holder Jr, the 29-year old rapper accused of killing Nipsey Hussle on Thursday pleaded not guilty in court to murder charges in his first court appearance. He was ordered held on $5 million bail.
Holder’s attorney, Christopher Darden, did not dispute the bail amount that was requested.
Eric Holder was charged with one count of murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the shooting outside The Marathon clothing store on March 31 that left Nipsey Hussle dead and two other men injured. If convicted, he will face life in prison.
Holder’s attorney, Christopher Darden – a law professor and defense attorney, who gained national fame as part of O.J. Simpson’s 1995 murder trial, argued that the prosecution has not established with certainty that they have the right person, and that publicizing Eric Holder’s image would interfere with his getting a fair trial.
“The issue of identity is still in question,” Darden said.
Deputy District Attorney John McKinney however argued that identity will not be an issue in the case. He said that Holder’s photo had already been widely spread during the hunt for him.
Eric Holder was ordered to return to court for another hearing May 10.
