Iran executes former defense ministry staff for allegedly spying for the U.S

Iran has executed a former employee of the defense ministry for spying for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the IRIB news agency reported on Saturday.

Jalal Hajizavar, a former contract employee for the aerospance organization within Iran’s defense ministry had left his post nine years ago and was convicted by a military court after an investigation which discovered documents and spying equipment at his home, the report said.

Hajizavar’s ex-wife was also convicted of ‘involvement in espionage’ and is serving a 15-year jail sentence, according to Dailymail.

IRIB news agency reported that Hajizavar was executed at the Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, west of Tehran. Further details were not provided.
