Michael Jackson’s Estate has released a tribute to the late star to mark to 10th anniversary of his death. The iconic singer, dubbed  the “King of Pop”, died on June 25, 2009. Jackson died from a prescription drug overdose at his Southern California mansion. He was 50.

Dr. Conrad Murray was convicted for involuntary manslaughter for his role in dispensing the anesthetic Propofol that caused Jackson’s death. He served two years of a four-year prison sentence.

Fans all over the world paid tribute to him on Tuesday, June 25. A statement issued by his estate to the Associated Press (AP) marking the 10th anniversary of his passing called him a “gifted artist” and “extraordinary humanitarian” and urged fans to honor his memory by engaging in charitable acts.

“United in grief, the world wept not only at the loss of an artistic genius but at the void left by the loss of a father, son and brother,” the statement continued. “A decade later, Michael Jackson is still with us, his influence embedded in dance, fashion, art and music of the moment. He is more important than ever. But the true measure of Michael was his giving to others which came in many forms.”

MJ’s legacy was tainted by allegations of child abuse during his time, which resurfaced after his death following HBO’s recent ‘Leaving Neverland’ documentary.

But the King of pop’s estate has since taken legal action against the streaming giant.

They want the world to remember all the good works that Michael Jackson did and see him as a humanitarian.

“He comforted the unfortunate at hospitals, in long-term care facilities and at halfway houses,” the statement continued. “He equipped Neverland Ranch with medical facilities to accommodate patients seeking refuge from their lonely hospital rooms, and thousands came. He visited troops on bases around the world serving their country. Guinness World Records acknowledged his efforts with an award for Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star.”

The statement added, “we best remember Michael by paying tribute to his legacy of philanthropic work and ask music fans everywhere to make a difference in their community.”
