Two Canadian women ages 19 and 20 were kidnapped at gunpoint outside their apartment in the Ahodwo district Kumasi around 8pm on Tuesday June 5, according to reports.

Police say the two women were students of Kumasi Technical University and volunteers with Youth Challenge International, a Toronto-based international development organization.
“Security agencies are working closely together to get them rescued, and the perpetrators arrested,” said David Eklu, Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Global Affairs Canada, a department in the Government of Canada that manages Canada’s diplomatic and consular relations confirmed the abductions. They said Canadian officials were working with authorities in Ghana. They also said that they have been in contact with the families of the two women.

According to A2 Global Risk, this is the third abduction of foreign nationals in the city this year, which underscores the growing risk of violent crime in Ghana.
