Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the Prime Minister’s office confirmed Thursday night
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, who will turn 45 on April 24, started feeling sick yesterday, shortly after getting back to Canada from a London speaking engagement. She tested positive Thursday and is currently quarantined, a spokesman said.
“First I’d like to say a big thank you to all of you who have reached out to me asking how I’m doing,” Sophie said in a statement. “Although I’m experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon.
“Being at quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns.”
The Prime Minister himself, Justin Trudeau, is reportedly in good health with no symptoms. There are no plans for Mr Trudeau to be tested for coronavirus. But as a precaution, he will self-quarantine for 14 days.
“The prime minister will continue to fully assume his duties and will address Canadians tomorrow (Friday),” his office said.
There are currently approximately 103 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Canada.
